Wise word Wednesday: The wise story today is called the Triple Filter Test.<\/p>\n
Socrates was the great philosopher in ancient Greece and was held in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, \u201cDo you know what I just heard about your friend?\u201d
\n\u201cHold on a minute\u201d, Socrates replied. \u201cBefore telling me anything I\u2019d like you to pass a little test. It\u2019s called the Triple Filter Test.\u201d
\n\u201cThat\u2019s right\u201d, Socrates continued. \u201cBefore you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you\u2019re going to say. That\u2019s why I call it the triple filter test.
\nThe first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?\u201d \u201cNo,\u201d,the man said, \u201cActually I just heard about it and \u2026\u201d \u201cAll right\u201d, said Socrates. \u201cSo you don\u2019t really know if it\u2019s true or not.
\nNow let\u2019s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?\u201d \u201cNo, on the contrary.\u201d \u201cSo\u201d, Socrates continued, \u201cyou want to tell me something bad about him, but you\u2019re not certain it\u2019s true.
\nYou may still pass the test though, because there\u2019s one filter left: the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?\u201d \u201cNo, not really.\u201d
\n\u201cWell\u201d, concluded Socrates, \u201cif what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?\u201d
\nToday before speaking about someone or situation apply the Triple Filter Test. As my grandfather told me if you can't say something nice don't say nothing at all!
